Guess my blogging mood is up again and my fingers have gone wild and are ready to party!!
Is it just me or what.. I'm always counting down the days to CNY holidays. Yes, I am very homesick although my home is just 300++km away from KK. (considering that some of my friends over here are from "overseas")
I really envy some of my friends who live in KK area where they can go back and relax during weekends. They get to enjoy their mommy's cooking and whatever that they feel comfortable with in their homes. How I wish I could have a car here where I can go where ever I want without worrying about transport problem or troubling others.
If were to have a car here, I'll definitely;
1) Continue my archery journey (may as well train well to join competitions to constantly upgrade myself)
2) Get a part time job
3) Take up some courses to upgrade myself
4) Get my ass outta dormitory life (Jk, the dorm life is fine..
5) Get a membership in any country/fitness clubs
6) On-call transport service (LoL.. I learned this from my seniors. People are doing this.. I'd be an idiot for not doing this)
7) Party all night long (Just kidding...
8) Rant out the crap I had for the whole week. (My wallet's gonna be on a strict diet for the rest of the week.
I certainly miss my everything at home! However, college life isn't too bad either.
>I get to be independent by taking care of myself without worrying my parents.
>I don't have to burden my family in terms of my financial situation
>I get to go out of my comfort zone to associate with people of all walks of life.
My college life can be either a Boon or a Bane.
Boons:
- I get to learn many new things
- I get to socialize with people
- I get to prepare myself and sharpen my communicating skills to face the society in the future
- I get to voice our my personal humble and honest opinions regarding some issues that are being brought up
- I get to learn many unnecessary things to kill time which sometimes turn out to be quite a flaw in disguise. (subjects which are in my opinion, quite unnecessary to learn and therefore, I always flunk in them. However, sometimes those skills can be applicable to other things)
- I get to suit myself in a society that consist of people with different culture and backgrounds.
- I get to learn how to be quiet, as in shut the hell up when crap happen to splash on my face.
Banes:
- Sometimes some unnecessary activities suddenly pop out of nowhere and I HAVE TO obey it and reschedule my plannings
- The "being late is okay, as long as you're not too late" culture is always being practiced by everyone is a really bad habit.
- The cleanliness of certain people and the poor maintenance of the public facilities can be such issues that somehow deteriorates one's mood and performance.
- There's only ONE socket in the room. Well, you can't blame the tenants for making the whole dormitory blackout if short circuit happens because EACH room has at least 3 extension sockets.
- The buildings are full of history. wait. Did I mention the buildings are HISTORY itself?
It's okay if the bits and pieces of the ceiling fall onto your head. It's perfectly fine......
Cracks on the walls? It's perfectly fine.....
Electricity and water disruption? It's perfectly normal....
(Learn how to embrace the flaws. cus If you don't, some people are going
- The poor internet connectivity around the college
CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY ON EARTH DOES THE GOVERNMENT ENCOURAGES US TO BE HIGH-TECH PEOPLE WITH GREAT INTELLIGENCE WHILST THE INTERNET CONNECTIVITY CAN BE SO BAD?!! (Students tend to spend hundreds of dollars in order to "invest" in a decent/good internet usage. It's no surprise seeing students carrying a portable Wifi modem to where ever they go. Apparently there are many internet connections around the whole college area. However, the ability of connecting our devices to the internet is a HUGE problem.
There are times that I would jump merrily whenever I see a modem nearby as it's a sign of FREE INTERNET CONNECTION!! However, there's a "black lining" underneath it.
The full bar connectivity turns out to be for viewing purpose only. Oh how I love this campus.
I may not live a lavish life back at home.
Spending money on luxurious goods is not realy my thing. Although I have to admit that I do enjoy window shopping for those things, (and of course, If I'm lucky, I do get my wishes for granted :DDD) I never really have the urge to buy those things.
It's truly amazing how people can spend all of their fortune to get what they want and survive on grass and sand for the rest of the week. I certainly cannot commit in eating grass and sand, and thus, I may behave quite frugal sometimes. Being frugal isn't that bad, tho :P
Peer pressure and mass media are constantly luring us into being materialistic bastards. It's undeniably hard to shut our eyes off and say NO to them. We live our own lives and they live theirs. Why on earth shall one fall be in despair because of other's fortune? Let's not grow a pair of green horns, grow a pair of hands instead. Remind yourself to work extra hard to achieve what you want.
And grow a pair of balls, to keep you strong to ward of the devil in you. Don't let the devil engulf you. Be the devil instead.
College life can really trigger most creative bit of you. Pertaining to;

Sweet potato soup with sago and coconut cream.
Thick, creamy and velvety soup with a hint of ginger flavour together with soft chunky bite-sized yellow, orange and purple sweet potatoes. With very mild sweetness, (natural sweetness from the sweet potatoes and NO SUGAR ADDED) one can never get enough of this.
I'd say I'm a pretty lucky arse to have such roomies and friends. They make my college life so much more interesting.
Recipe for this:
(There's no "exact" recipe for cooking. Follow what your guts tell you. The recipes are just guidelines to guide you)
- 2 medium-sized yellow sweet potatoes
- 2 medium-sized orange sweet potatoes
- 2 medium-sized purple sweet potatoes (as the "purple dye" for the soup)
- 1 small chunk of ginger (you can omit this if you don't like ginger. Having this give the soup a more in-depth flavour that warms the mouth and tummy)
- 2-3 tablespoons of sago pearls
- Water (enough to immerse all the ingredients)
- Coconut cream/milk (according to one's preference)
- Rock sugar or sugar as sweetener (according to one's preference)
Directions:
- Wash and peel all the sweet potatoes
- Cut them into chunks/bite-sized pieces
- Wash, peel and slice the ginger
- Put all the ingredients into the pot and let it boil (takes around 1hour to fully cook the potatoes)
- After 1 hour, check the texture of the potatoes (it's done when the potatoes are soft)
- Add coconut cream tablespoon by tablespoon according to your preference
Voilla! There you have it! Easy huh? We did it! You can do it too!
Life can be so much more interesting if you make an effort to improve it. Don’t sweat the small stuff and enjoy every bit of it.
Adios, my friends~ See you again in the next post. :D
Glossary:
Black lining : The opposite to "silver lining" (I made this out :P)
Sago pearls : "Sago /ˈseɪɡoʊ/ is a starch extracted from the spongy centre, or pith, of various tropical palm stems, especially Metroxylon sagu. It is a majorstaple food for the lowland peoples of New Guinea and the Moluccas, where it is called saksak, rabia and sagu."
